What We Provide
As part of Pacific Links Foundation's comprehensive counter-trafficking efforts, Summer Camp is an annual activity of the Academic Scholarships Program. Over four days, scholarship recipients come together from the remote and impoverished areas of the Mekong Delta bordering Cambodia to build confidence, compassion and vital connections that will safeguard them from the dangers of human trafficking. At its core, Summer Camp is a youth development endeavor. The camp’s goal is to provide a space for students to make new friends, learn about different career and training opportunities, and to work on personal growth through the guiding values of GRACES (Gratitude, Respect, Accountability, Courage, Engagement, and Safety).
Workshops have included:
> Reproductive health
> Introduction to computer programming
> Arts & craft
> College application
> Career orientation - new paths & directions
For many of the Summer Camp attendees, camp was also their first and only opportunity to travel outside of their rural villages. It was the first time for many to reflect on their future, the opportunities that lie ahead, and the reasons why they need to stay in school.
Since 2007, 11 sessions of summer camp have been held. In 2017, 1,000+ students and their teachers attended summer camp.
