T. is a 37-year-old worker from Thanh Hoa Province who came to Da Nang City to work and has two young children. At first, she was hesitant to participate in activities due to her family commitments. However, as she learned more and realized how helpful the skills and knowledge were, she became more active in Empower Migrants (EMMI) activities. She enthusiastically stepped up and became the leader of a women’s group in Da Nang City.
She led a reproductive health project and proposed topics for her group, such as raising healthy children, teaching children to be independent, and managing family expenses.
She shared, “I have cultivated my skills since participating in the monthly group activities. I can now confidently present and share my ideas in front of my club, company, and factory. I also know how to prepare and give a presentation.”
During COVID-19, she regularly checked in with her fellow workers in the group and encouraged them to have a positive outlook. She said, “Our families are facing many difficulties because the company cannot import materials to produce goods. Some of us have had reduced shifts, leading to lower and unstable income. Some took on extra jobs or were laid off. I sympathized with the workers and reminded them that everyone is in the same situation. Since I learned how to manage expenses, I know how to save so that my family can still eat well on a smaller budget.”
