Happy Mother's Day

Ngoc Ngan is 18 years old and is currently in 12th grade. She is from Hue in Central Vietnam. Ngoc Ngan has 2 siblings. Her father works as a mason assistant and earns ~250 USD a month in sunny season (no income in the 3-month rainy season). Her mother earns ~300 USD as a Chef assistant far away from home, and only visits once a year. Whenever she can, Ngoc Ngan's mother watches her while she draws, encouraging her to pursue her dreams of becoming a graphic designer. She dreams of one day having her drawings shown in an exhibit. Ngoc Ngan has won many prizes in Drawing Competitions, including 2nd Prize in her city's drawing competition. Ngoc Ngan shared: "I feel relaxed whenever I use a pencil to draw a picture. I love the creative process when I draw, I can bring my imagination to life through pictures."

Bang is 18 years old and is currently in 12th grade. She is from Dong Thap Province in Vietnam near the Cambodian border. Bang has lived with her grandmother since she was young because her parents work far away from home. Her parents sends back ~$40 - $80 USD every 3 months to help support them. Even from far away, Bang mom's encourages her to keep studying and checks to see if she has eaten. Bang loves having the space to express her creativity in school, especially during literature class and in after-school activities. She dreams of becoming a teacher to help other young people in similar circumstances reach their full potential. Bang shared: "Many people have advised that I should quit school to help support my family. This makes me think more about leaving school. My mother tells me that I should follow my dreams. Pacific Links Foundation's support has given me hope and many opportunities. I am determined to finish my education."
