Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)
Early Childhood Care and Education Program (ECCE), initiated in 2001, brings experts from the US and Vietnam together for a series of semi-annual workshops on early childhood education topics. The mission of ECCE is to address the needs for the childhood education and development in rural communities and to improve the overall quality of early childhood education in Vietnam.
Impact and Vision
Collaboration and quality learning: The ECCE Program aims to provide opportunities for collaboration, forum, quality learning, hands-on experience and discussion among professionals working in the area of early childhood education in Vietnam and ECCE experts from the US.
Professional knowledge and skills for early childhood education: The ECCE Program is to equip students, teachers, and care providers with updated knowledge, skills and competencies in the early childhood education field. The trainings are designed as individual sessions on divergent topics such as physical, social, emotional and cognitive development, language, environment, learning disability, and classroom management with hands-on learning, creative teaching aids and child-centered pedagogy.
Since our beginnings in 2001, ECCE continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to its mission through a wide range of initiatives and activities in the field of early childhood education in the country.
- Field Assessment
ECCE Program has developed an Advisory Board that highlights the coordination efforts between Pacific Links Foundation, the School for Early Childhood Education at the Pedagogical College of Hue, the Center for School Cooperation and Humanity Education in Hue, the Departments for Education and Training in Vinh Long and nine districts in Hue. The board oversees the implementation of multi-year plans of ECCE’s strategic objectives. This initiative has enabled ECCE to effectively address child development needs in rural communities in Vietnam.
ECCE has identified, developed and organized workshops and trainings on a wide range of early childhood education topics that address the needs of Vietnamese teachers, child care providers and parents, especially in remote areas. With classes conducted entirely in Vietnamese, the bond between students and trainers has significantly contributed to the quality of the program. ECCE trainings and workshops focus on three main areas:
- Early Childhood Education Workshops
ECCE organizes semi-annual workshops for teachers and administrators from care centers and schools in remote areas. 5,160 teachers and administrators from 1,002 child care centers and schools have attended 43 series of trainings offered in Huế, Hà Nội, Đà Nẵng, Quảng Nam, An Giang and Vĩnh Long from 2002 to 2013.
- Health Education Initiative (HEI)
HEI is a health education program that was initiated in 2010 in partnership with VA-NGO Network, Project Vietnam Foundation, Children of Peace International, Center for Encouragement for Self-Resilience, CHEER for Vietnam and Our1World. HEI provides professional and high quality trainings on pediatric first aid for care providers in Vietnam (PedFACTs - Vietnam). HEI’s mission is to provide Vietnamese teachers and childcare providers with access to updated techniques to perform CPR and first aid for children. Since 2010, we have provided 35 series of HEI trainings for over 1,300 teachers and caregivers.
- Parenting Workshops
ECCE collaborates with the Center for School Cooperation and Humanity Education , Elite Bilingual School, Mầm Non Lá Xanh/GreenLeaf Learning Center in Vietnam, and International Children Assistance Network (ICAN) in California and to organize workshops on childcare for parents. Since 2007, ECCE has organized 22 series of parenting workshops and conducted two series of training-the-trainers.
